State Crit Championship-May 23, 2010

Well, today was an AWESOME racing day! It was my first State Championship race and we had a perfect day to ride! The first picture is all of us at the start line. They started our group and I drafted going up the first hill but I felt too good and just decided to take off. I heard one of the boys tell his teammate "he's coming!!!" So, I did and never looked back! I came through the first lap in 1st place and never slowed down! There were two hills, two sharp turns and a sprint finish! It was sooo fun but I think it helped getting a great bike fit before my race! Thank you again Ryan...you totally rock! I felt like I could have ridden all day! Thanks to my coach, Rob Green, who gave me the perfect workouts to get me really strong! Coach, I will keep working hard for you...you are AWESOME! Whoa...check me out in my new State Champion's jersey! It is sweet...I think I might sleep in it tonight. My mom said it was OK! Rad Racing Rocks!!!

Awesome fit...Awesome DUDE!!

This is my new buddy at Buchanan Bicycles, Ryan Lenhart!! He totally rocks and if you want your bike to be the most comfortable you should definitely go see him! Ok, so he got my shoes fixed up, the correct pedals, put my handlebars in the correct position and shortened the stem so I don't have the tension in my shoulders and neck! And, he was soooooo cool! It sure doesn't hurt he has fitted bikes for Jens Voigt, Andy and Frank Schleck and Fabian Cancellara!!! He taught me a bunch of stuff! Thanks to my BG Fit, I bet I will ride much better in my races and when training!

Oh, and for those of you who were wondering if I could make it two whole days without riding...well...NOT! I only made it one day. I just had to ride on Monday but I did cross training on Tuesday off my bike! Does that count? Anyway, I have a race to get ready for so better get to bed for a good night's rest!

OKC Velo Time Trial Series (3 of 3)-May 15, 2010

It was a very foggy, misty wet day but it didn't matter to me! I just wanted to race and my old teacher John was there with his little girl! I couldn't wait to show him what racing was all about. I felt good and  it showed on the clock! When I finished I had shaved 4 minutes and 17 seconds off since I started this series in March! And, I won my division!!!! I rode an average mph of 18.21 and finished this 8.4 miles in 27:40! It was "rad" to win this series!

I think I might compete in the State Championship for Crits next weekend...just to get good experience! I will be training until then but my coach has made me take a couple of days off to rest...I hope I make it two whole days without riding! TTYL

2nd TT in Tulsa-May 13, 2010

Well, this race started off a little scary because we went to unload my bike and found out I had a flat rear tube! We had never had to change a tube before so I was afraid I wouldn't be able to race. My parents called our friend Craig at Al's Bicycles and he helped them over the phone! Yea...I got to race! Thanks Craig oh, and thanks to my mom and dad!

The first time I competed in this race it was only a 5K but this month they increased it to a 10K. I wasn't worried because I had been putting in lots of good training rides and working with my coach, Rob Green. He even made sure my mom knew exactly what I needed to eat up to race time! I think it helped because I was able to shave time off and come in 1st again! I was 7:59 faster than my closest competitor. I was very happy! I know I still have work to do but I know I am getting stronger and faster! So, I finished the race in 20:53...10:02 on the first 5K and 10:51 the second 5K. I yelled at myself on the second lap because I could tell I was going slower and it made me mad. I kept yelling "Go faster Luke!!!" I think it helped. I averged 17.85 mph. Anyway, I was still happy that I did my best and won the race! Now, back to OKC for my next TT on Saturday!
